The Sky is the Limit

Imagine jumping out of a plane at 10,000 feet. My life has always been one adventure after another and living life to the fullest. I've played golf, tennis, baseball, and basketball growing up. For years I thought I would be a baseball player, I played first base at a pretty high level at a young age. I always wore number 19, because that was the Reds first basemen's, Joey Votto's number. We used to go to Reds games all the time, and my dad and I even went to Spring Training in Arizona two times. My travel team, at twelve years of age, won a 28 team World Series in Branson, Missouri. This was the highlight of my young life; I was even the winning pitcher, in the championship game. More importantly, I got to spend the whole week in Branson with my friends. Growing up my baseball buddies were like the brothers I didn't have, because I am an only child. I still see and talk to the majority of them today. I played baseball my freshman year in high school and even got to start a varsity game as a pitcher. Unfortunately, a knee injury cut my season short. Though I would play two more summers of travel baseball, I would never play another high school game, the reason being that I fell in love with golf. I decided quicky that I wanted to play college golf.

I also played tennis in high school, playing doubles for four years. My partner? It was one of those baseball buddies. To tie into it being a small world, during our senior year we only lost two matches, and the one that hurt the most was in the regional final to a team of brothers, in which one of them is now my teammate on the Marian golf team. I almost cried after that match, I told my parents later it was, because I realized that I would never play tennis with Caleb again. The dynamic duo as they called us was no more. Caleb now plays college basketball, and I see him as much as possible. My friends have always meant so much to me and though I have faults, I always strive to be a loyal friend.

Outside of sports another passion of mine is traveling. One of our family goals is to travel to every state in the United States, and I have already been to 38 states and hoping to add 4 more states this year. I've also been lucky enough to travel outside the U.S. going to 15 countries. This past summer we went to Germany, Switzerland and Austria. I also like being a risk taker and enjoy skiing and going to amusement parks when I have the opportunity. While most kids may want to go to Florida for spring break I am going skiing in Colorado with my cousin.

My golf game led me to Marian when Coach Ford followed me around while I was playing in the Indiana Amateur at Marian's home course, The Country Club of Indianapolis. (I am glad I had a good day)! I'm studying business management and hoping to do something with the sports world. Media, marketing, and many other areas of the sports world all interest me. I feel like I could be very dynamic and help a company out in many ways. My career goals are to work with a sports team. I think following your passions are so important in a career. My parents have said to follow that passion at a young age because as a person ages, it becomes more difficult. Maybe I could even do something in the sports travel industry to pair my two passions together. Regardless of what I choose, I know from my background in sports that it will take hard work. Baseball came easy to me, and I was always able to slide by with an average amount of work to be one of the best on my team. Golf, however, has taught me that in order to truly be the best I can be it takes hard work and long hours. What I do know is that in golf and in life with hard work, the sky is the limit! By the way, I did jump out of a plane at 10,000 feet, which was my graduation gift from my parents to start my next chapter, and I would do it again tomorrow.
